The week before/ Travelling to Albuquerque

So here it goes, after being recommended to keep one by previous students on years abroad this is my travel blog. This is my first time writing something like this so I’m not too sure how good it will be but hopefully it will be reasonably enjoyable to read. Any comments on where I could improve would be appreciated. Hit the jump to read more.

After the best part of a year worth of planning the day I would head off to America was fast approaching, what could go wrong. It would seem quite a bit. Firstly after being misinformed by the post office the travel card was in the wrong name so I would be unable to use it. Trying to fix this was surprising difficult as we kept being told different things by the post office customer service team as to how to fix the problem. However it was eventually solved. Then three days before my flight I slipped as I was coming down the stairs and fell down, breaking the index finger on my right hand. This means that for the next five weeks I have to wear a splint stopping me from bending two of my fingers. Finally with only slightly over twelve hours before I had to leave for the airport my laptop informed me of an impending fatal hard drive problem meaning that it was going have to be replaced. This lead to a frantic scramble back to the shop that had sold it so it could be fixed. After all this we were wondering what else would happen before I boarded the plane.

Fortunately for me nothing did happen and the entire journey went by without incident other than randomly meeting a friend I hadn’t seen in a couple of years as I passed through passport control. My first view of Albuquerque came from the sky as we flew over towards the airport and after about fifteen hours worth of traveling I was finally there, all that was left to do was to collect my baggage and head off to my hotel. To do this I got a taxi and was given a brief overview of Albuquerque by the driver and also was given his family history. He described the city as a “hick town” whilst being as stereotypically hick as is possible. Even though it was coming up about 7pm it was still very sunny and warm with a temperature of about 91oF/ 32oC and hasn’t yet got any cooler.

This concludes my first post, hopefully it was ok for a first attempt. I shall write another one relatively soon when I’m all moved into the university and term begins if I remember but until then thanks for reading.
